What’s the point of being a heavy hitter on Instagram, view wise…
If no one is streaming your work or reading it elsewhere?
Let’s be vague about this. But since Instagram has been around, a lot of people crave getting attention. Except this time, I’ve noticed it starts and stops at Instagram.
My goal was to build around my work for my website, because I’m going to post something else, and you’re going to forget about what did well. While I can go back and screenshot everything, having a home base is essential.
Let’s say your goal is to get noticed by Hulu or Netflix. Social media views count – but landing page views even more so. If Netflix runs an ad for a show, and no one watches it in app…they’ll drop your show.
You also want to be established when it comes to Google Search. Views on social media count, popping up on Google with not only information, but a website, numbers AND social media will do better.
Because if I were Netflix, I wouldn’t care if you reached 400k views on your Instagram account, but 10 views where the video is actually being streamed. The rush to be seen will dead end your chances, and leave you stuck.
Maybe that’s what people want, I have no idea.
Recently, someone told me not to run ads because “organic engagement is better.” For once, can someone who has more than 50 followers not speak on things they’re unaware of? He felt inferior and I hadn’t even gotten into the real numbers behind all of my work.
What I will say is – no one really knows what they’re doing…and I’m keeping my lips sealed. Last time I gave someone advice, they tried to use it against me. A lot of people are aware they can run ads, but using Instagram for EVERYTHING will eventually catch up to you. I feel that it’s a great place to commune, but views away show consistency, effort and management.
Marketing is more than just being seen, and Instagram is a tool.
