🥀For Women like Me – Nia, from The Fray🥀

I am sipping wine on this fake holiday, but instead of celebrating a country being usurped from those who already called this place home…

I am celebrating 🥀The Fray🥀

Dear “black” girl, we did it.

I’ve written a lot of books, and all the main female characters are a woman of color. I made sure of that. But this one hits home a little harder.

Horror and Dark Fantasy are dominated by mostly white women and men – which is fine. I love a good story! But the backlash you receive from cosplaying characters or loving a story is horrendous.

And so I thought – why not make our way easy?

It has received love from both Latinos and Blacks and I couldn’t be happier – because then white people are loving it as well.

Or how about this? Humans.

Humans are loving it. Whatever their shade. This is incredible. It is what I wanted, and while I still have a ways to go…so far I am pleased.

“You can’t do that, you’re too dark.”

It turns out, present day humans don’t do enough research to make such a comment. Spain, for example was invaded by the Moors – which is why a lot of modern day Spanish people have olive tone skinned, and dark wavy to curly hair.

We don’t want to talk about that though. I feel it’s important because the Moors (quote me) had Arabic roots, which is why some in Latin America look Arabic or are mistaken for being Arab.

The world is a melting pot, you can’t switch the recipe once the food has cooked.

Cheers to 🥀The Fray🥀 and cheers to beating the norm
