Dear Self Made

Briefly mentioned in an earlier post – doing for yourself when it comes to your art is important.

What I feel a lot are hoping for is a miracle or a break.

What I’ve learned is I have to pour into my craft with my time and my money…and hope for the best. It can be expensive, can seem pointless…but when you finally reach a certain point at the summit of the mountain you’re climbing, you realize it’s worth it.

Yes – it costs money to be self made. No one is going to magically stumble across your content – if they do, it is few, far and in between. The engagement from that doesn’t put you in the spotlight. Whether you’re paying ads through Meta or using a service that helps you obtains your goals…if you want eyes on your work…that’s the path you have to take.

I’ve seen many an artist who think they’re that special, they don’t need to do any of what I’ve mentioned – and then they’ll ask me, “how did you get to where you are?” Or, “what am I doing wrong?”

Thinking your work is above all else and wishing for a miracle is pretty egoistical and screams that you’re filled with fear.

I would definitely take my time running ads, and have a plan so you don’t over spend. Readjust the plan as you go along.

Or, your choice, don’t and pretend the world is against you. If you’re a sole proprietor or own an LLC, you are the business. Businesses spend money to make money until what you earn is greater than what you spend.
