I Admire Grade School Teachers

What profession do you admire most and why?

I originally wanted to teach elementary school children, but unfortunately I have systemic lupus. I would have been sick often.

I admire teachers the most because of the sacrifices they make in their strides to teach young people. It’s not just about the subjects, it’s also connecting. Showing yourself to a classroom of little people who are learning to be themselves can be unnerving. When I see teachers go out of their way to provide comfort and understanding, it warms my heart.

This, and a lot of teachers don’t get paid what I feel they should. And yet many show up, everyday to work.

For those who have helped a child in their classroom beyond their educational needs – you are the best. Even if you couldn’t fix the entire situation, listening to someone, letting them cry, giving them extra food just in case, anything. It all counts later on down the room.

It is a commendable job, truly. And it’s thankless at times, like parenthood. But I’m positive it’s absolutely worth it.

  1. Definitely felt same, although, it took me until I was a college student to understand how it all connected and what they felt their actual purpose was.

    1. I can relate. It wasn’t until I was older than I fully understood their sacrifices.

So beautiful! I was an elementary school teacher for twelve years and had to leave my teaching career because of my chronic illness. I retired twelve years ago, and I still miss it.

    1. I can imagine! Children are wonderful! I’m sorry you had to retire, but I’m glad you had the time to teach when you could.
