What was your favorite subject in school?
My all time favorite subject was science. It never explained any of its theories, and I enjoyed pondering about that.
Topics that made sense – isotopes, nuclear energy, dispersion after either a leak or bombing, and scientific methods, with me completely hating math yet excelling in this area. Also, the periodic table of elements kept me dazed for hours on end – breaking down and building up in my mind. I openly experimented with given materials as well.
What fascinated me most was learning that the only thing that can break down organic matter…is inorganic matter (like fluoride, and chlorine).
And humans have figured out how to mine for said elemental properties which was concerning and frustrating. In my early twenties, when researching Systemic Lupus, I realized that there was a massive uptick of mining in the 1700s that lead to the discovery of Systemic Lupus and other monstrous diseases.
Even if you’re mining for gold, there is a process to form the precious metal underground, which includes hazardous arsenic matter, still very much around the area within the gold.
Loosening the soil can, unfortunately, lead to particles drifting into ground water – a major source of drinking water for more people than you realize. This is why drilling for oil is such a big deal.
Science has helped me learn about and explain the world around me. I value all new things I’ve learned, and hold on dearly to older information I’ve gathered along the way.
