How do you celebrate holidays?

Things are different in my household. I am not religious, but I do believe in a creator. However, I refuse to celebrate Thanksgivings Day, and Independence Day for America.

Instead, I choose to celebrate Mexican Independence Day because I am Afro Mexicana. I celebrate Halloween because it’s fun – but I make my children’s costumes and I make our treats.

I also celebrate Dia De Los Muertos. In addition to those holidays, I celebrate Earth and its existence. I recognize the equinoxes, and heavily celebrate the solstices. Usually, this means cleaning my altar, cleansing the gemstones, replacing the flowers (the flowers are usually my offering) and writing down manifestations. I typically ask for balance, more than anything. Balance can be achieved, but I don’t have much to ask for.

As for Christmas, I celebrate for my children. But, we only buy a few things. And we do not indulge in sweets too deeply. Sugar and cold weather can lower the immune system immensely.

I hadn’t celebrated Valentine’s Day in ages, so this year was great. My twin flame made me a wonderful playlist from a game we play. And I illustrated and painted his likeness.

I enjoy what I celebrate, and I am never in financial shambles because of it. To each their own!
