What traditions have you not kept that your parents had?
If you’ve been reading my prompt answers, you know I’m pretty much out there.
I’m the black sheep in the family, and I love that role. With that being said, I do not believe in religion or a god. As certain text suggests, I am god. I view my world as such. Everyone is capable of this consciousness, as it is a gift.
My parents made a habit of going to church, weekly, and celebrating all Christian holidays just about. In addition to that, they also celebrated Thanksgivings Day and Independence Day.
My thoughts on holidays led me to realize how controlling a lot of things are, and I refuse to celebrate them. Thanksgivings Day and Black Friday have a dark, terrible history. As someone with Mexica in their family, and as someone whose family has been usurped throughout American history, I tend to not follow the flocks.
Independence Day isn’t a holiday I’d like to celebrate as well, considering my people were already here. Maybe not New England (more so Florida, then Mexico…Seminoles) but the same thing happened all over the Americas.
I’ve decided not to persecute anyone who still celebrates those holidays, but it’s just not my cup of tea. I also do not acknowledge Cinco De Mayo because the history has once again been blurred.
While my mindset seems unreachable, I am freed from societal norms and nonsense and prefer my life this way. I do not want to judge anyone on their choices, as everyone’s journey is separate from my own.
