What do you think gets better with age?
This is an interesting question, considering what I’ve witnessed in my life.
While most answers will be generic, I state should simply because it doesn’t always occur – almost seldom to be fair.
Wisdom is lacking worldwide. There was a time I assumed adults grew older and wiser, and I was sorely mistaken. Oftentimes, people adapt attitudes and behaviors that keep them from this type of growth. Then, they typically blame it on their upbringing or environment, but those are terrible excuses.
Before you jump to conclusions, I was molested as a child, then raped as a teenager. However, I have learned lesson after lesson…and realized, especially in my younger adult life…that my choices were on me. So my problems and the results (cause and effect) were my fault, and my fault alone. And in order to change, I took a good look at everything I was doing, because I was tired of being desperate, in pain, and afraid.
When I focused on what kept me stuck, and saw there was always a solution…the entanglement I found myself in fell away – with time.
I do not wish to judge anyone, but this is what I always assumed, that older people were wiser. While I have come across a few, most are not. And generally speaking, simply because they don’t want to change their ways. You are your greatest enemy and greatest ally.
Which side would you like to be on?
While some may heavily disagree with this, the next time you order food…stop and ask yourself who drove you to the drive-thru, who will be using your money…and who decided they were hungry in the first place? You.
Ultimately, better options are at the local grocers or in your home…instead you’re choosing deep fried heart disease.
I feel it’s necessary to point out that many people don’t see their choices as an issue until the issue multiplies and makes offspring over the course of your existence. Then you have a pest control problem you’d prefer to blame on others…when you have keys to your own car.
Whose hands were on the steering wheel?
Wisdom is something that comes with acceptance of self, and understanding of self…so that you may understand others around you. With this…you learn and teach all in the same breath.
