What’s the oldest thing you own that you still use daily?
There were two things I was obsessed with growing up.
Pens and watches. Bizarre, yet passed down from my father. He had a collection of pens and the watches.
My need for the items has thinned over time, finding quality in items I actually spent money on. However, I haven’t gotten to marble laid fountain pens, I don’t think I’m old enough to appreciate a marvel such as that.
I do however, own a ball point pen by Swarovski, as well as a watch that tells the phases of the moon. Actually, the battery stopped a couple of weeks ago, so I have to take the watch in to get that taken care of. I’d do it myself, but the back won’t come off without me damaging it!
I often use the pen, clearly I was using my watch, and I got both in 2020, weeks before lockdown. I own other items that are much older, but these two I use almost on a daily basis.

The journal I use a little more often that other artifacts sitting around and that is eight years old. It’s stuffed with birthday cards, post cards, my children’s art…and my painful journey towards healing. I haven’t finished writing in it, I have about a third of the pages left.
It’s leather bound, cost me about $50, and has been intruded in a couple of times by my mother, looking for clues to her poor behavior. (I’m almost certain she learned NOTHING)
Maybe one day, my children or future spouse will open this journal and marvel at my insanity. As for the watch and pen…I’m not sure. Perhaps I’ll pass both down to my only girl.
