Waste Not

What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?

I love this question!

I have a handful of items that are fairly old for this day and age.

I consistently wear a pure silver bangle, and a sterling silver ring that are both ten years old.

I don’t have them on today, but I also own a pair of black patent leather platform Dr Martens that I’ve had for eight years!

I have a habit of purchasing goods that are quality, long lasting materials to help against how much I waste as a person.

I haven’t gone overboard with that concept, but it’s helped a great deal. Not a fan of diamonds because of how they are gathered. I turned my interest to Swarovski crystals. Affordable, long-lasting. And I don’t feel like a “rapper”’wearing my pieces. I learned to make better pieces of jewelry as well.

When it comes to handbags, I own two genuine leather bags. One is a large embossed tote, the other is an envelope like messenger bag, which is smaller. I polish them when they need it, and I’ve had those for about three years now. I previously owned a couple other handbags that I ended up giving away.

In 2016, my father passed and left the estate in my name. I discovered in 2018 it was a substantial amount. I wanted to know how to keep my wealth, and the first thing several videos and experts suggested was shopping wisely. An espresso machine over Starbucks. Genuine leather over high end bags.

This was something I was practicing long before, but I laughed at how simple it was.

I also believe in fixing garments, polishing shoes and jewelry and giving unused items away.

My goal is to have a lot of what I own into old age. I hope my wares are auctioned and my children have funny stories to share when sorting through my things once I pass!
