Make No Mistake

In January of 2017, I took my eldest and family to an art exhibit for Star Wars. It showcased the costume designs for the majority of the series at the time.

On our way home, we intercepted protesters for a woman’s march. One women curtly asked why I didn’t attend. I told her because I was celebrating my son’s birthday…

She moved seats as if I were plagued.

The large group surrounding me began complaining about their rights and owning businesses, and one asked how I felt about things. Everyone was blindly excited, shooting off remarks and making statements they’d make excuses for later.

“I own the rights to all of my work and have been self published for five years…”

The bus grew quiet and I was ignored afterwards.

To sit among people wanting things to be better, but not a soul asked how or what I did blew my mind. I recant this story because your choices build your life.

I fall away from the word, I have my own world. I live, breathe and create. Yes, I was upset when that occurred, but it brought me to realize that no matter how much you could explain and could be correct, only one person will actually listen.

Often, I am questioned on how do my own hair, nails, makeup and write books and create art – because I want to. I am driven from passion, and not to prove anyone wrong. A lot of people lack conviction, yet complain when someone else takes over.

Nothing motivates a person who simply will not. I do not support either side of the coin because a lot are not operating from a place of love. Love sounds nice when we can get our way, or we assume being selective isn’t as bad as everyone makes it sound. But many do not operate from a place of pure love.

And so, I welcome you into my world, where I honestly don’t care what you are or what you do, as long as you’re a good person. But the requirements are love, effort, creativity, and understanding yourself. To allow, and to stop looking for recognition where it won’t be found…

Because if you won’t, no one else will.
